World Book Day 2022

World Book Day 2022
Afshan Ahmed

World Book Day will take place on Thursday 3rd March (which is the first Thursday back after the half term holiday) and this is a particularly special event as it is the 25th anniversary. We are keen to ensure that during their time at Oasis Academy Foundry all pupils experience a range of different, engaging, and exciting events to celebrate this important literacy day. Therefore, this year we will NOT be asking pupils to dress up. Instead, we will offer a competition activity and children will spend the morning making hats in class that tell their favourite story ready for a, ‘Mad Hatter’s Tea Party’. Not only is the theme of a Mad Hatter’s tea party relevant for a 25th anniversary World Book Day celebration but it also coincides with Lewis Carroll’s 190th birthday year! We will also have a production company coming in on the day. They will be performing the story, Alice in Wonderland and pupils will have a chance to see the Mad Hatter live on stage!

Pupils will receive their World Book Day token at the end of the event. All they need to do is visit their local bookshop, or large supermarket (most are participating) and swap the token for one of twelve (exclusive, new and completely free) £1 World Book Day books. The token can also be used to get £1 taken off a full price book instead.

If they wish, pupils are also welcome to bring in their favourite book from home to read at the tea party but we have plenty of book choices at school if they prefer to choose one in class. We have a few surprises in store for the children to make this a truly memorable event and we will update you with out fun and frolics on Class Dojo.
